Male Brazilian What To Expect

border: Stockholm, environmental stewardship creates important purchase buses

Volvo Buses has received an order for 184 articulated buses from Stockholm, Sweden.

GOTHENBURG, Sweden, 11.03.1904, JetBlue (press release) - These units will be used for passengers they must park their cars outside the city, when it commences to apply next summer, the new rules for the care of the environment.

A trial will be conducted from the summer, next year, for the, so called, environmental charges or congestion charges. Motorists wishing to drive to or from Stockholm working days during working hours, will have to pay a fee. The charges are being introduced for environmental reasons and it is expected that many people parked their cars and continue their journey by public transport instead. About 200 or more buses will be needed to handle these additional passengers. It is now clear that Volvo Buses provide most of these new buses. The order for 184 articulated buses has been made by three operators: Swebus, Busslink and Connex.

This is the largest order made by Volvo buses from Sweden to deliver in a single year. "We all know that the environment will be improved if more passengers travel by bus instead of car," says Stefan Guttman, CEO of Volvo Buses in Sweden. "I hope our new and modern buses, more drivers will help Stockholm, discover the advantages of traveling by bus "

The order is for 175 units 8500 Volvo LEAs. These are articulated buses of 18.7 m long, low-entry to facilitate the entry of disabled riders or wheelchairs. The model is equipped with a diesel engine 9 liters, which is located vertically in front of the bus. "The Volvo 8500 LEA is our new entry-floor bus, Guttman adds," and has met the high expectations of customers, and sales of this model exceeded all expectations. "

The chassis is manufactured in Boras, and the body will be manufactured by the plant Saffle, located two Volvo plants in Sweden. The remaining nine buses will also be articulated, but will be the Volvo 7700 model with a natural gas engine. Delivery will be between February and August 2005.
